The Portville Pee Wees finished the season undefeated as last year.  The Ponies and Midgets both lost in the championship games in 2004.

"It may now be said that Nitsche and Miller were two of the best ever at PCS...and I don't think there's ever been a tight end like Bullet either.  They had big-time years and careers, and the 4-year seniors won more football games than any other Panthers in history - 29 victories.  I think. - James T. Thanks to these folks for making the home game experience an exciting time:

Gene Rogers - Music
Dave Bergreen - Announcer
Doc Rasey - Scoreboard

Interestingly, there are 560 varsity football teams in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.  Section 3 has the most with 79 squads, while Section 6 has 77.  Section 10 has only 8 schools.  This does not include private schools and many inner-city schools.

In NYS, there are 138 AA schools, 126 for A, 128 for B, 91 for C, and 77 for D.  Section 5 presently has the most D schools at 17.

Portville and Catt-LV will be D schools next year...giving Section 6 a total of 16 D teams.
thus, the Panthers will be in league with C-LV, Franklinville, Ellicottville, and 4 others, we think.

Portville has been on the edge of D-size for years.  Year in and year out, there is a measurable difference between the best C school and the best D school in Section 6, as there usually is between C and B, with some exceptions.  Ellicottville would probably get smacked by Falconer this year.  C champs Falconer just lost to B champs Southwestern this year though, 14-13.  Falconer may win the states, so we'll follow their progress.

Portville is #9 in the states C class this week, while Bolivar is #9 in states D.  Olean is #10 in states B.  They were all higher before the big 3 lost at the Ralph.  Must be something in the water around here.
